HomeMy WebLinkAbout9.07.2023 MinutesCITY OF OSHKOSH SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY BOARD Minutes September 7th, 2023 SAB PRESENT: Margy Davey, Lisa Marone, Ken Osmond, Vic Oliver, LaKeisha Haase, Brad Spanbauer EXCUSED: Megan LaFond ABSENT: STAFF AND OTHERS: Kirsten Buckstaff (Citizen), Allison Carlson (Wisconsin Local Government Climate Coalition), Emma Dziengeleski (Planning Staff), Staff (Oshkosh Media) I. Call to Order Chair Margy Davey called the meeting to order at 6:00pm and a quorum was declared present. II. Public Comment Ms. Davey asked if there were public comments. Kirsten Buckstaff, 1212 Washington Ave, shared some brief background information for the Clearwell Replacement Project. She explained that she was on the Ad hoc Committee and asked the board to help with advocating what could potentially be done and included at that site. She gave examples of what she would like to see including native plantings, embracing the Indigenous heritage, lake health and ecosystems, and more. Mr. Osmond and Ms. Haase arrived at 6:07 pm. III. Approval of Minutes, August 7th, 2023 Ms. Marone motioned to approve the minutes. Mr. Spanbauer seconded the motion. The board approved the August 7th minutes 6-0 (Marone/Spanbauer). IV. Presentation from Wisconsin Local Government Climate Coalition Ms. Davey introduced Allison Carlson from the Wisconsin Local Government Climate Coalition (WLGCC) and then she gave her presentation. Ms. Carlson touched on WLGCC’s mission and who is currently a member, the value of becoming a member, what their current impacts and initiatives are, City of Stevens Point spotlight, and the process of how to join the group. The members asked Ms. Carlson a few questions about the organization and what it would look like if the City of Oshkosh became a member. V. UWO Environmental Studies Senior Seminar Project Ideas Ms. Davey explained that the UWO Environmental Studies Senior Seminar will be working on projects again this year. She asked if the board could use this time to help think of more project ideas to bring to the students. Ms. Oliver brought up the board’s 2023 goals for the group to discuss and get ideas. There was some brief discussion of the different goals and which projects they would like to see. VI. Fall and Winter Farmers Market Outreach There was no conversation regarding this agenda item. VII. Monthly Sustainability Facebook Topics Ms. Davey shared that she would like to revisit the idea of monthly sustainability topics on Facebook. She asked the board if they had any suggestions on topics, if they wanted to create a calendar, and more. Ms. Oliver explained that she had a calendar created for the rest of 2023 as well as 2024. She then shared her list with the group. Mr. Osmond gave the group an update on working with the interns of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). He explained that they might be interested in helping with the board with these monthly topic posts if they have the time and resources to do so. There was some follow up discussion on posting ideas, resharing other groups posts, timeline of sharing with staff, and getting involved with other social media platforms. IX. Agenda Items for Future Meeting Wisconsin Local Government Climate Coalition, Sustainable Communities Network, Social Media Update (Small Business Development Center), X.
