PURPOSE:

AUTHORIZE GRANT APPLICATION
JUVENILE ACCOUNTABILITY INCENTIVE BLOCK GRANT
OSHKOSH POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the Oshkosh Area School District, in conjunction with the Center for
Career Development (UW Oshkosh) and in cooperation with a variety of community-
based organizations, to provide a truancy prevention program that will directly serve 30-
50 youth identified as habitually truant.
WHEREAS, the purpose of the project is to:
a) Help the youth become regular attenders and successful students;
b) Assign to identified youth a volunteer a volunteer mentor to assist with
academic remediation or enrichment. These volunteers will also act as positive
role models;
c) Incorporate a philosophy of positive discipline and attempt to focus on
the recognition and reinforcement of positive behaviors displayed by participants
while at the same time holding accountable those students who continue to be
truant;
d) To provide the youth and their families with interpersonal and life skills
training through a family and school relationship building program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of
Oshkosh that the proper City officials are hereby authorized and directed to make
application for a Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant (JAIBG) in an amount not
to exceed $19,076.00.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the proper City officials are hereby authorized
and directed to execute any and all documents and assurances which may be required
for the purposes of this Grant, and are further authorized and directed, if said grant is
awarded, to accept such finds, pursuant to the terms of the grant application.
