PURPOSE:
REAFFIRM WASHINGTON AVENUE PAVEMENT WIDTH
INITIATED BY: DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
WHEREAS, on November 28, 2000, the Common Council approved the 2001
Capital Improvement Program, which included reconstructing the portion of Washington
Avenue, between Broad and Bowen Streets, at a 36-foot width, subject to further
administration review with the immediate neighborhood and final report to the Council; and
WHEREAS, the current pavement width is generally 35 feet, while the width of
Washington Avenue, east of Bowen Street is 32 feet and west of Broad Street varies
between 35-36 feet; and
WHEREAS, as part of the administrative reviewwith the immediate neighborhood, a
survey of property owners yielded these results: pave at 32 feet - 7 of 14 respondents,
pave at 34 feet - 1 of 14 respondents, pave at current width - 1 of 14 respondents, and
pave at 36 feet - 5 of 14 respondents; and granting easement to city for tree planting: yes
- 10 of 14 respondents, no - 4 of 14 respondents; and
WHEREAS, the city administration, upon further review, recommends the Council
reaffirm the pavement width as proposed in the 2001 CIP;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of
Oshkosh that the proposed 36-foot pavement width of Washington Avenue, between
Bowen and Board Streets is reaffirmed.
AMENDMENT: Street width for Washington Avenue was change to 32 feet
