and we would need *,he use of the barrooms in the park.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.

I am writing to request the use of public space known as the Kiwanis Shelter in
Menomonee Park on the evening of August 6, 2003~ The WPJC is organizing a
community event that encompasses the remembrance of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki
bombings of 1945.
The event will begin in the evening of August 6th with an optional bring-your-own
picnic for families and friends at 6 p.m., followed by a formal program featuring speakers
from local Christian, Muslim, Jewish religious communities and community advocates as
well as a storytelling of Sadako and the Paper Cranes.
In an effort to commemorate the horror of the World War II atomic bombing, an
international Peace Lantern exchange was begun during the late 1940's. Peace Lanterns
are made all over the world and floated in ceremonies on August 6th and 9th to depict the
bodies on flame which ran to the rivers in the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima
after the bombings there. Here in the Fox River Valley these lantern floats have
historically been held in Appleton and Neenah, and this will be the fi/st time one is held
in Oshkosh.
We do not need full use of the premise, only to use the electricity (for amplification) and
restrooms.. The ceremony, itself, will take place by the docks near Lake Winnebago and
the shelter. We feel the only need for full use is if the weather was not complacent.
If you have any questions, please direct them to Bob Poeschl.
