HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-132.docMAY 13, 2003 03 - 132 RESOLUTION (CARRIED__ 6 - 0 ______LOST________LAID OVER________WITHDRAWN________) PURPOSE: REALLOCATE ROOM TAX INITIATED BY: CITY ADMINISTRATION WHEREAS, the Common Council, by ordinance 02 - 437 adopted November 26, 2002, in creased the hotel/motel room tax from seven to eight percent, effective January 1, 2003, intending that the full one percent increase be allocated to the Convention and Tourism Bureau; and WHEREAS, by prior resolutions, the Common Council previously pled ged hotel/motel room tax in support of the Oshkosh Centre Utility and also allocated all unpledged room tax revenue in various ratios to the Convention and Tourism Bureau and the Grand Opera House; and WHEREAS, the Common Council altered by contract the f inancial support for the Convention and Tourism Bureau and the Grand Opera House from hotel/motel room tax; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to adjust the allocations to meet current expectations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Oshkosh that, subject to the City’s debt service obligations, all revenue generated from the one percent increase, effective January 1, 2003, be and is hereby allocated to the Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau, Inc. and the Grand Opera House Foundation, Inc., or successors thereto, per the City’s existing agreements with the respective parties; with the understanding that the two entities have agreed that the Foundation shall remit forthwith upon receipt its contractual share of the one percen t increase. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution 14, adopted December 19, 1985, is repealed and the proper city officials are authorized and direct to allocate all revenue from the remaining hotel/motel room tax generated by all hotels and motels in th e City of Oshkosh, to the Oshkosh Convention Center, to the Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau, Inc., and to the Opera House Foundation, Inc., or successors thereto, pursuant to contract.
