HEATING/VENTILATION  Furnaces: Follow manufacturer’s instructions for servicing, change filters as needed, check venting to ensure it is unobstructed. Every year furnace vents are obstructed with snow, ice, and rodent nests. Make sure to verify there are no obstructions.  Dryer Venting: Check and clean interior and exterior dryer venting system for buildup of lint/obstructions. Birds like to make nests in vents that don’t have covers so please verify that there are no nests in the vents. BUILDING  Smoke Detectors: Check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Replace batteries annually and replace the detectors every 10 years.  Gutters: Check conditions of gutters to make sure that they’re not filled with debris, joints are leaking, and that they are directed away from your building foundation.  Wood Burning Fireplaces: Verify if your chimney has been cleaned per the manufacturers recommendations.  Stairs & Railings: Verify stairs and railings are in good condition and make any required repairs.  Attics: Check attic for signs of leaks or moisture issues (condensation on underside of roof sheathing).  Basement Foundation: Check basement foundation for leaks, large cracks or deterioration. ELECTRICAL  Solar Panels & Electric Vehicle (EV) Outlets: These are becoming more and more popular and require permits and inspections. A new circuit may be required and/or your panel may need to be upgraded to accommodate the charging station.  GFCI Outlets: The outlets should be tested monthly to make sure they’re working properly.  Extension Cords/Power Strips: Extension cords, power strips and splitters can get overloaded and should be used only for temporary use. Make sure there are no tears or kinks in the cords to prevent fires. Please make sure that appliances are plugged directly into wall outlets. PLUMBING  Cross Connection Prevention: A cross-connection is an actual or potential connection between the safe drinking water (potable) supply and a source of contamination or pollution. State plumbing codes require approved backflow prevention methods to be installed at every point of potable water connection and use.  Sump Pump Discharge: Slippery, hazardous situations can be caused by your sump pump discharge in the sum- mer as well as the winter. Please ensure that the water from your sump pump hose does not spill onto the sidewalk, driveway, apron, alley or street  Water Heater: Check your water heater for venting and leaks. Please contact our office at (920) 236-5050 if you have any questions. Several permits can be applied for online at https://www.ci.oshkosh.wi.us/EvolvePublic/
