The official number is 10,405; which averages out to 29 calls per day. This is an 8% increase since 2021 and 15% overall increase since 2019 Fire Chief Mike Stanley said that, “The City of Oshkosh’s population continues to increase, and as a large number of the population ages, I foresee a continued increase in demand for our services. With a fixed number of resources such as firefighters, apparatus, and fire stations the Department continues to implement and utilize risk-reduction programs to attempt to reduce the numbers of incidents by preventing them in the first place.” As the needs of those who live, work, and visit evolve the Oshkosh Fire Department will continue to add value to our community. February 1, 2023 is a momentous day for the Oshkosh Fire Department! At 0800 this morning we went live with Automatic Vehicle Location (A.V.L.) Dispatching. This should decrease our response times by ensuring that the closest available unit will be sent to an emergency. We are always searching for better and more efficient ways to serve our community and are very thankful that we have been able to put this technology in place. 2.2.23 We are very proud to announce that the Oshkosh Fire Department has joined with other departments around the USA to adopt the Firefighter Rescue Survey as part of our operations The Firefighter Rescue Survey was created to highlight the most important aspect of our profession. Saving Lives. Until now fire service data has been solely focused on only the negative. "Line of Duty Deaths" and "Civilian Fatalities" were the only statistics that were available to the average civilian. Why not put the spotlight on what really matters? By recording the number and details of a rescue made on the fireground we will be able to tailor our training to methods and techniques of what actually works. Improving our results to benefit the populations we serve. https://www.firefighterrescuesurvey.com/ 2.3.2023 Today was a great day for the Oshkosh Fire Department.
