You know you're from Oshkosh when...

Hello, neighbors! Would anyone like to help me organize a Repair Cafe
event in Oshkosh for the community? If you haven't heard about them,
Repair Cafes are simply spaces where people bring their broken household
items to a space (like a library) where other people in the community have
the tools and know-how to fix them. For free. This is an idea that has gone
global, and it's an easy way to build community and share skills. What I'm
thinking of right now is organizing a one-off event, perhaps at the Oshkosh
public library, so people can experience what it's like. (There are plenty of
videos on youtube showing events in other locations if you search "Repair
Cafe".) Maybe it becomes a regular thing, maybe not. But my experience at
a couple has made me believe the effort would be worth it. So, if you've
read this far, I've got two questions for you: 1) Would you like to be on an
organizing team to make a Repair Cafe event happen, and 2) do you have
suggestions for me about community groups/individuals that might be
interested in also being on the organizing team or in actually fixing broken
items at the RC? For instance, I just spoke with the manager at ACE about
the RC yesterday, and now I'm going to print a flier for the workers there to
check out. (FYI, the organizing team would a) outreach to the community to
find potential fixers, b) get the word out about the Repair Cafe event itself,
and c) communicate with the event space, which at this point, I hope could
be the public library). Please let me know at michael.jborucke@gmail.com
if you'd like to help with any of this. Thank you!
