Nursing Career engaged in multi areas of expertise including 4 years as Head Nurse on Acute Mental Health Unit, Milwaukee VA ; Medical and Surgery Units in VA in Des Moines..... serving largely 50 year and older, and last 30 years in Correctional Health I worked collaboratively to develop a statewide system to deliver healthcare to all ages with an ever increasing emphases on elderly inmates. Twelve years ago, received training in, developed, and trained others in "A Stephen Ministry"program at First Congregational Church of Oshkosh. This lay ministry largely serves our older population as they face issues relating to losses of aging, isolation, mental health and spiritual needs. I continue to provide oversight of this group. 45 years in nursing administration and management inevitably encompasses assessing, developing, and providing services to people as they age wherever they are! I would work towards identifying all stakeholders regarding elderly services in Oshkosh, hoping to increase cooperation and collaboration when developing services within our community. I particularly concerned with social isolation of the elderly, encouraging fitness and healthy options activites, and geriatric depression which is often overlooked. I would envision the Neighborhood Associations as instruments to support aging neighbors and encourage multi-generational opportunities. During the next few weeks, I will also be doing an internship with Appleton Downtown Inc. to research the diversity equity and inclusion of the Farm Market. With my immigrant background and knowledge of the City of Oshkosh, I am able to understand the obstacles that those who are marginalized face on a day-to-day basis; I grew up in Oshkosh as a dirt-poor immigrant, having to get food from Farther Carr's food pantry (which had mostly expired, or almost expired food). My family grew up poor, but was able to climb the social ladder, which also gives me the ability to understand the wants and needs of both the marginalized and those with newfound privilege in our City.
