Box 1130 Oshkosh, WI 54903-1130 920.236.5002 http://www.ci.oshkosh.wi.us TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Sarah Phillips, Museum Director DATE: July 14, 2022 RE: Amend Museum Membership Budget BACKGROUND The Museum sought a grant through the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, supported by the Wisconsin Arts Board to present special October programming recognizing Latinx culture through Dia de los Muertos. This Celebration will help shine a light on Hispanic culture and open doors to a greater awareness of a rapidly growing population in our region. At the time of budget adoption in November 2021, the Museum had not identified this programming opportunity. For that reason, no funds for this were budgeted in the 2022 Membership Fund. ANALYSIS The Oshkosh Public Museum has been awarded funding for this celebration by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board. This $4,000 grant will help fund events related to Latinx culture in the Lake Winnebago region through a Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration this October. Currently, these events include a community altar (ofrenda), traditional Mexican folk dancers and mariachi, family craft and learning opportunities, and confirmed free showings of Disney Pixar’s Coco at the Time Community Theatre. Additional program offerings continue to be discussed and planned in partnership with area Latino and Hispanic leaders and groups. FISCAL IMPACT The fiscal impact is neutral as the project is fully supported by private funds. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the Membership Fund be amended to reflect the use of the grant from the for the Dia de los Muertos celebration enrichment programming from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board. $4,000 to Revenue account 02271070-4265-11209; $4,000 to Expense account 02271070-6412-11209.
