RE: UPDATE THE SCHOOL BUS LOADING ZONE AND PARKING REGULATIONS
ADJACENT TO OSHKOSH WEST HIGH SCHOOL ON N. EAGLE STREET AND
SOUTHLAND AVENUE
BACKGROUND
Oshkosh West High School has reconfigured student and visitor entrance and exits to the building and
therefore would like to relocate 4 of the 8 buses currently using the west side of North Eagle Street to
drop off/pick up students. The school is concerned with conflicts between buses and parents picking-
up and dropping-off and this change will create clear separation.
Under this proposal, 4 school buses would continue to load and unload on North Eagle Street and 4
buses would load/unload on Southland Avenue. This would create an area of short term (30 minute)
parking on North Eagle Street to accommodate visitors and would allow parents to drop off and pick-
up students and if necessary, use the main school entrance throughout the day.
ANALYSIS
The area was evaluated and these proposed changes will have minimal impact to the area. North Eagle
Street is 44’ wide and Southland Avenue is 48’ wide. Both of these streets are wide enough to
accommodate the proposed uses. This proposal only affects the school side of the streets and the effects
are beneficial to school users.
The Traffic and Parking Advisory Board recommends approval (5-0).
FISCAL IMPACT
The cost of these changes is updated signage which will be covered by the sign department operations
budget.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend approval.
Respectfully Submitted, Approved:
