Oshkosh, WI 54902 (920) 232-5300 (920) 232-5307 FAX OSHKOSH COMMITTEE ON AGING (COA) MINUTES January 4, 2022 A.) Ms. Richey called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. B.) PRESENT: Judy Richey; Julie Kiefer; Mike Ford; Heidi Basford-Kerkhof; Joanne Murphy Spice; Bryn Ceman EXCUSED: Lindsay Temple; Julie Davids; Julie Maslowski; Cheryl Hentz ABSENT: Mike Norton STAFF: Bobbie Jo Nagler, Activities Coordinator C.) APPROVAL OF MINUTES: December 7, 2021 minutes approved as written: Mrs. Kiefer moved to approve the minutes as written; Mr. Ford seconded; ALL IN FAVOR, Motion carried (6) to accept the minutes as written. D.) CITIZEN COMMENTS ON AGENDA ITEMS: None E.) PUBLIC COMMENT ONAGENDA ITEMS: Ms. Richey announced the retirement of City Clerk, Pam Ubrig. Ms. Ubrig had been with the City for 41 years. F.) PRESENTATION: a. Bree Goodearle, Omro Area Community Center (OACC); (see attachment A- Omro Community Center) Ms. Goodearle stated the OACC was doing a mail drive for a residents 100th birthday. (see attachment B-Ervin F) Please send cards to: OACC, 130 W Larrabee St, Omro WI 54963, further questions please contact 920.685.0380 ext. 21. Mrs. Basford-Kerkhof questioned if there was a gym; Ms. Goodearle replied, no there are 2 floors of rooms and offices. Ms. Richey stated some benefits of being a smaller community included, the town coming together in times of need. She stated after the storms, the community had helped each other with clean up. Ms. Goodearle stated she was pleased with the many connections there are in the community and she is proud to be an advocate to other organizations. She explained she had been able to assist with two homeless people. She stated they had participated in 12 days of toiletries and received over 150 items. Mrs. Murphy Spice stated it was so neat how the community came together to keep the OACC open. G.) OLD BUSINESS: None H.) NEW BUSINESS: a. Discussion of current scams: Mrs. Basford-Kerkhof stated once a name is on the scammers list, they sell to other scammers. She explained how a lady was scammed by someone stating they were from Microsoft or Amazon and have charges and they need your information to remove them; another was that her neighbor had won a car and they would drop if off in her driveway once she purchased several hundred, to thousands of dollars in gift cards and send to them. She explained her neighbor had gone to Walgreens on 9th Ave in Oshkosh and thankfully, they refused to sell to her because they knew she was being scammed. Ms. Richey shared a scam stating the post office notifies you stating you have to pay $2.90 for a package; she shared another scam (see attachment C- UPS Scam) Mr. Ford stated the Plan Commission was meeting this evening virtually to move forward on the Day by Day Warming Shelter, if passed, it would go to Council on January 11th. He stated the property was purchased with CBDG federal funds. I.) OTHER BUSINESS: a. Mrs. Ceman stated she had taken a position with GWAAR, Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources. She explained she works with Counties and Tribes to promote federal grant dollars. She provided a copy of the ADRC monthly newsletter to all members. b. Mrs. Murphy Spice explained with the rising cases of COVID she would be waiting until spring to hold exercises classes. She stated she had concern of being pulled from her position to assist the Winnebago County Health Department with phone calls. c. Mrs. Basford-Kerkhof explained hospitals are short staffed, beds were full, and people are dying as young as 30 years of age. She urged everyone to get vaccinated. Mrs. Murphy Spice stated Sunnyview has “Walk in Wednesday” for vaccinations; Ms. Richey stated there is a testing site called Summit. (see attachment D-Summit Clinical Laboratories) Ms. Richey explained the State Health Department was conducting a survey regarding, after effects of COVID, the report will be available mid-spring and she would share details then. J.) ADJOURNMENT: Mr. Ford moved to adjourn at 8:40 am, Mrs. Kiefer seconded, ALL IN FAVOR, Motion carried to adjourn at 8:40 am.
