HomeMy WebLinkAbout02.04.22 Newsletter TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Mark Rohloff, City Manager DATE: February 4, 2022 RE: Weekly Newsletter 1. 2022 HOUSING STUDY FEBRUARY VIRTUAL OPEN HOUSE: In April 2021, the City of Oshkosh contracted with RDG Consulting and Design to conduct a city wide housing study. The results of this housing study will help elected officials, City staff, stakeholders and community members discern the local housing market, and understand key housing issues and how they impact the City of Oshkosh. It will also serve as a platform for strategy and policy decisions. The report is intended to offer a basis for formulating specific housing priorities, policy options, intervention strategies, and allocation of resources. Staff and the consultants identified stakeholders to participate in listening sessions and serve on the Technical Stakeholder Team. The team has met periodically during the planning process. In addition to the open house previously held in January, there is a virtual plan open house scheduled on February 24th at 6pm. Virtual meeting information will be available soon! Visit the project website at: https://rdgusa.com/sites/oshkosh/. If you have any questions, contact Planning Services Manager Mark Lyons at mlyons@ci.oshkosh.wi.us or (920) 236- 5059. 2. INSPECTION SERVICES DIVISION JANUARY 2022 REPORT: The city’s Inspection Services Division found the total value of permits issued during January more than doubled compared with the value of permits issued during January 2021. Collection fees for the month increased by 70 percent over the same period a year ago as well. The growth in both permit value and permit fees collected was driven by a more than $2.5 million interior remodel project at Target department store as well as a series of larger projects at the former Smith School, former Miles Kimball buildings, Amcor’s corporate office, and the expansion at Lourdes Academy. Those four electrical projects combined are valued at more than $1.7 million. If you have any questions, please contact Chief Building Official John Zarate.
