Oshkosh Public Library Highlights
January 2022
1. An all-star library cast assembled for OPL’s annual Great Reads program, with staff from a
variety of departments and the Winnefox Library System stepping up to share their favorite
books from 2021. The video has received more than 800 views since it premiered in November
and is also being played on Oshkosh Media’s Life TV channel.
2. The library has resumed high school materials pickup at Oshkosh North and West high schools.
Students can drop off library materials in the school media center and an OPL volunteer will pick
them up each week.
3. OPL was in the spotlight as a resource for great reading recommendations at the end of 2021,
with librarians featured numerous times across a variety of channels.

4. Oshkosh’s generosity was on full display as more than 100 items were donated to the Mitten
Tree in the library’s lower level in December. The collection of mittens, hats and scarves was
sent to the Salvation Army for distribution during the holiday season and throughout the winter.
5. A Santa Meet & Greet drew 150 people to the library in December. Besides meeting Santa and
taking photos, families could post a wish for the season on a holiday display and each child
received a goody bag. The library also distributed more than 300 DIY ornament kits to families
throughout December.
6. The Winnebago Free Legal Assistance Clinic resumed at the library on Jan. 18. Suspended during
2020 because of the pandemic, the service is back with volunteer attorneys and paralegals
offering assistance with most civil legal issues. Sessions are also held at the Menasha and
Neenah public libraries on alternating Tuesdays.
7. Library staff attended the Cookies & Cocoa event at the Oshkosh Seniors Center on Jan. 15. The
family event was billed as a “pajama party for the whole family” with treats, music and games.
Library staff promoted services and programs, answered questions and signed people up for the
Wild Winter Read Off.
