Please be aware Mayor Palmeri will be appointing a new alternate Museum Board Member at the next City Council meeting on January 25th. I’m excited to work with community members as interested and invested in history as the staff and current board are! A question that has come up over the last week regards the reconstruction of Algoma Street. Earlier today, I spoke to the City Engineer for the project. There will be no through-traffic on Algoma beginning on March 7th. Side-road entry onto Algoma is still planed for areas that are not closed, but as the project moves on, only residents of the street will have access. Construction on Algoma near the Museum is planned for July through September, although as we know, construction dates may be fluid. I’ll update the Board as new updates are shared. Please be aware: The museum and parking will still be accessible to visitors via High Street. I’ll work with staff to ensure we have signage to direct people to the High Street driveway. We had a successful public programming meeting. Museum staff brainstormed ideas for engagement and enrichment programming, including potential lectures, family activities, presentations, and potential partners in the community. These events may highlight current exhibition content, shine a light on local history, offer hands-on experiences, or provide our guests with other informal educational opportunities. Another exhibit was also added to our 2022 calendar. The exhibit (title to be determined) will feature photos from the Deltox Rug Company. Content will illustrate the history of the company, craftsmanship and equipment used, and the history of manufacturing in Oshkosh. As a general update: between January 12 and January 18 we had 481 visitors to the Museum. Many thanks for all you do, Sarah Phillips Museum Director
