MEMO TO THE MUSEUM BOARD
January 14, 2022
To the Board,
As we enter the new year, we are putting a great deal of focus on upcoming exhibitions,
exploring educational programs, and planning for updates throughout the Museum.
Staff are working on the creation of History Inquiry kits for students in third through fifth
grade. These kits target social studies topics specific to those outlined in Wisconsin state
standards. The third grade content will focus on the fur trade and early peoples. Lumber and
mining will be the subject matter of the fourth grade kits, and fifth grade will reinforce
curriculum on the Civil War. These kits will be free for teachers in the Oshkosh School
District to checkout for classroom use. The launch date for these kits is still being determined,
but will be shared soon.
Earlier this week, Emily and Amy spent time going through our archival Mary Mears
Collection to make initial selections of lectures, notes, letters, and sketches for the upcoming
exhibition. Amy has also been working on the archives backlog of small collections, and has
cataloged a variety of materials ranging from marriage certificates to political ephemera,
menus, and programs from local clubs.
As mentioned in a previous memo to the board, two
artworks are being loaned this Friday, January 14th,
to the Cedarburg Art Museum. These pieces will be
featured in their exhibition The History of Wisconsin
Art Exhibition: A Creative Place.
Partner events, 13 Folds and Thank You Letters to
Veterans had a great turn out. The Thank You Letters
even received media coverage, both broadcasted
and in a web-article. To see it, please click here.
Visitation numbers will be updated in the next board memo.
Many thanks for all you do,
Sarah Phillips
