As a reminder, we will meet in person in the Sawyer Library of the Museum. Over the last week, I have met with a number of city staff as I learn about the Capital Improvement Projects that were approved for 2022. The invitation for bids for the Signage Improvement project was edited for clarity and was reposted for bidding. It was renamed “Masonry Monument Signage and Landscaping” to provide a more descriptive title and with the intention of drawing interest of masonry companies. Bidding for this project will close on January 25, 2022. Staff rotated collections pieces in the Contemporary Native American Art exhibit case in People of the Waters. Newly exhibited items were crafted by Oneida artist James Kelly, who creates Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) raised beadwork pieces. Exhibit Technician Greg Witthun created new mounts for the three beadwork pieces. Registrar Emily Rock and Assistant Curator Katrina Achilli will be creating a video for a tablet next to the case which will feature Kelly describing the symbolic importance and artistry of the objects in more detail. Special thanks to Museum friend Karen Ann Hoffman for suggesting James Kelly. There are two programs this weekend. Holiday Letters on December 18th will engage participants using authentic letters written by military members from our archival collection. On Sunday December 19th, The Newport Singers will perform from 1:00-3:00pm. They will be singing holiday music medleys, featuring songs from White Christmas. Between December 8 and 14th, the Museum hosted 842 visitors, a senior group, and a group of 16 from Oshkosh North High School. We look forward to continuing to develop a stronger relationship with local schools to engage students and support core curriculum and state standards. As the year comes to a close, we celebrate the community, board, staff, volunteers, and city leadership who have supported us throughout 2021. We wish you all the happiest of holidays and a safe, cheerful new year. Sarah Phillips Museum Director
