HomeMy WebLinkAbout11.05.21 Newsletter TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Mark Rohloff, City Manager DATE: November 5, 2021 RE: Weekly Newsletter 1. STRONG MOMS PRESENTATION: On Thursday, October 21, 2021, PIO/Crime Prevention Officer Kate Mann was the guest speaker at the Downtown YMCA's Strong Moms program. Officer Mann spoke to the guests about scams and frauds targeting Halloween merchandise sales on the internet, safety tips for trick or treating, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and handed out OPD items for safe trick or treating such as flashlights, blue blinking lights and flashlight keychains. 2. TRUNK OR TREAT: On Friday, October 29, 2021, officers were invited to participate in Trunk or Treat events at Amcor Packaging and Carl Traeger School. Officers provided OPD items for safe trick or treating and spoke with families about keeping children safe during Halloween trick or treat hours. Officers Kate Mann and Cecelia Krause attended the Amcor Packaging event while Officers Scott Sopata and Keith Norkofski participated in the Carl Traeger event. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the awesome costumes! 3. LIGHTS OF CHRISTMAS CULVER'S DAY: On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, during the lunch and dinner hours, Oshkosh Police Lieutenant Matt Harris, Sergeant Todd Wrage, PAO/Crime Prevention Officer Kate Mann, Community Service Officer Crystal Young, Telecommunications Clerk Joni Kerwin, along with members from the Oshkosh Police Auxiliary and the 2021 Citizens Academy class participated in the Lights of Christmas campaign at the Oshkosh Culver’s located on Koeller. During the event, officers helped deliver meals in the restaurant and the drive thru. Officers helped bring awareness to the event by speaking with customers about the program. Culver’s donated 10% of that day’s sales to the Lights of Christmas NE Wisconsin campaign. All proceeds from the fundraiser are then turned into gift cards that officers give to citizens in need in our community over the holidays. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Culver’s for sponsoring this event and for making a difference in the Oshkosh community! 4. INSPECTION SERVICES DIVISION OCTOBER REPORT: The city’s Inspection Services Division experienced a 145 percent increase in the total value of permits issued in October compared with the same period a year ago, driven by the nearly $9.4 million building permit issued for Mackson Corners. The 4-story, 74-unit multi-family residential building along the Riverwalk in the Marion Road Redevelopment Area is the second phase from the developer who built the Brio apartment building and Oshkosh Food Co-op. The city’s Inspections Services staff made 589 total inspections throughout the month of October 2021 with an average inspection completion of 1.15 business days.
