Re: Chief Oshkosh Project - Statement by Douglas Cox, Vice-Chairman Menominee Tribal
Legislature
Posoh (hello) distinguished Landmark Commission Members, Please accept my written
statement as part of the record in the Landmarks Commission meeting held on October 13,
2021.
As Vice-Chairman of the Menominee Tribal Legislature, it is one of my duties to communicate in
forums like this, any of our comments, concerns or wishes that become known and are
considered high importance to the Menominee Tribe. This issue represents a piece of our
history and culture and today should be the day we celebrate an accomplishment that has
taken many years to enact and correct. These 5 plaques not only tell a story and honor an icon
in Menominee history, but they also provide an important piece of education and
interpretation that the public should forever have the enjoyment of accessing. I ask you to
please consider these comments and additionally use your Commission authority and act by
voting on the approval of the 5 plaques.
Waewaenen (Thank you).
