RE: Weekly Newsletter
1. PLANES WEREN’T THE ONLY THING FLYING AROUND: GO Transit provided over 16,000
rides to and from EAA during the seven day event in addition to regular transit service. We
proudly offered safe, convenient transit service for visitors and residents. These rides were
provided with very few issues and there were many compliments received. Thank you GO
Transit staff and drivers for providing friendly service and proving once again how safe,
affordable and convenient transit service is in Oshkosh. If you have any questions about GO
Transit, please contact Transportation Director, Jim Collins.
2. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT: Tuesday, August 3, 2021, was the return of National Night Out!
Organizers from 9 neighborhoods hosted block parties with activities, food and friendship in
celebration of National Night Out. National Night Out is held on the first Tuesday of every
August and brings neighbors together with law enforcement to promote positive
police/community partnerships in an effort to make our neighborhoods safer places to live.
Several members of the Oshkosh Police Department and Oshkosh Auxiliary Police visited with
neighbors throughout the evening. Our specialty teams – SWAT, K9 Unit, Motorcycle Unit and
our Command and Community Outreach Vehicle (CCOV) provided demonstrations for
participants. PIO/Crime Prevention Officer Kate Mann handed out “swag” bags filled with items
and information about some of our programs (LEAAP, Citizens Academy, Relay, OPD 5K,
Crossing Guards, etc.) to the adults in attendance and kids received donated stuffed animals from
Pet Smart!
Thank you to all the event organizers and neighbors who worked so hard to make this another
successful, fun-filled evening with friends. We look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s
event on Tuesday, August 2, 2022!
3. OSHKOSH MEDIA DOCUMENTS FOOD CO-OP OPENING: The community is buzzing
about the new Oshkosh Food Co-op, and Oshkosh Media was there to record the exciting events
surrounding the opening of the new not-for-profit grocery store. Click here to watch the Food
Co-op’s ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, August 3, or click here to watch the Co-op’s
opening ceremony from Thursday, July 22. The Oshkosh Food Co-op is a full-service grocery
store located at the corner of Jackson Street and Pearl Avenue in the newly constructed Brio
Building.
4. OPERATION LAKE FLY – COMMUNITY ART PROJECT: Have you noticed several of the
lake fly public art displays missing this summer? Planning and Parks Department staff have been
working on repairs and redecorating a majority of the sculptures that have been damaged over
the past few years. Some of the pieces are being repaired by the original artist and others are
receiving a new design. Staff hopes to have all 14 art pieces back on public display before this
winter. A recently repaired lake fly is already on display in Opera House Square. Anyone
interested in learning more about the project can contact Alexa Naudziunas at
anaudziunas@ci.oshkosh.wi.us.
