RE: Weekly Newsletter
1. EVERYDAY HERO’S: Earlier this year OFD responded to a call where a gentleman
collapsed at Planet Fitness. Due to the quick response time and actions of the OFD he
was able to walk his daughter down the aisle on June 5, 2021 which fulfilled a dream
she has had for almost 42 years.
The gentleman and his wife wanted to show the fire fighters who saved his life and
everyone at Station 15 their appreciation by buying lunch on Monday, June 14. They
worked with Firehouse Subs and arranged delivery of box lunches that all included
the Firehouse “Hero” sub. The delivery note read, “Please enjoy these “HEROES”
along with my heartfelt thanks for giving back to me the priceless gift of life. You are
all heroes in my book.”
We’d like to recognize the following fire fighter/paramedics: Justin Feaker, Isaac
Nadler, Kurt Heid, Jordan Olson and Doug Waech. Great job!
2. FREE FAMILY EVENTS AT THE LEACH AMPHITHEATER: Mark your calendar
for all the free family-friendly festivities taking place at the Leach Amphitheater in
2021. You won’t want to miss out on our concerts, movies, Kids from Wisconsin, and
the return of the very popular Touch-a-Truck event! See the attached flyer and if you
want more information follow the link below to the online calendar:

lay=Calendar&module=Event
If you have any questions about our Leach events or even want to volunteer and be
part of the fun, please contact Jenny McCollian, Revenue Facilities Manager, at (920)
232-5319.
3. BRINGING BEAUTY TO OSHKOSH: The Landscape Operations Division has
completed the installation of all of the flower beds throughout the City and is nearly
complete with the spring tree planting program. We will now be focusing on the
mitigation of a large number of Emerald Ash Borer affected trees during the coming
months. We would also like to remind residents to monitor any new terrace trees
planted near their homes and to assist with watering during the extended dry periods
we have been experiencing. If you have any questions regarding the plantings, please
contact Bill Sturm, Landscape Operations Manager, at (920) 236-5080.
4. BACK IN THE SWING OF THINGS: The Oshkosh Seniors Center is looking for a
Grand Slam in the second half of 2021! In July we are bringing back, after a 15 month
absence, cards and games. Our card players are excited to finally get back together
and socialize. A full bus left for the first trip since March of 2020 for a Brewers game.
The “trippers” were ready to get back in the swing of things and the Brewers game
was just the ticket!
The number of people participating continues to go up; just recently we had a day
that brought 31 for bingo, 15 for a healthy knee presentation, 17 for nail care, 21
worked out in the Fox Fitness Center, 38 people attended exercise classes, and 7
individuals took a wood carving class.
It is great to see more usage in our buildings and July will bring more. The Oshkosh
Seniors Center is here to enrich the lives of older adults. Come stay active, stay social,
and stay informed with the help of the Center.
If you are interested in finding more information, check out the Center’s program
newsletter on their webpage. https://www.ci.oshkosh.wi.us/SeniorServices/. If you
have any questions please call Jean Wollerman, Senior Services Manager, at (920) 232-
5300.
5. PLENTY OF EVENTS TO KEEP YOU BUSY: June has been an incredible month of
bringing the community back together and celebrating all that Oshkosh has to offer
at our many events. From car shows and boat races to music and fishing tournaments,
we have a little bit of everything!
The Leach Amphitheater saw its first Waterfest concert since 2019 on Thursday, June
17 and that very same weekend welcomed Billy Stings, the Grammy Award-Winning
American guitarist and bluegrass musician. Individuals traveled from all over the US
to Oshkosh, WI for his performance!
Next month will continue to be filled with events for the whole community. Catch
the annual 4th of July Festival Foods Fireworks show at Menominee Park and
purchase your tickets for Lifest, once again featuring Skillet, the following weekend
at the Sunnyview Expo grounds. Or join us every Saturday morning at the Oshkosh
Farmers Market.
If you’re looking for more opportunities for crafts and vendor shopping, don’t miss
the Faire on the Green at the Paine Art Center on July 11 and Square Fare at Opera
House Square on July 17.
These are just a few of the many upcoming events. For more information on these
and other exciting events coming soon, check out the Visit Oshkosh website at:
https://visitoshkosh.com/ or contact Kathy Snell, Special Events Coordinator, (920)
232-5304.
