A quorum was determined to be present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by Martin for approval of the April 12, 2021 minutes. Seconded by Greuel. Motion carried 8-0. NEW BUSINESS 1) DISCUSS/DETERMINE FUTURE BOARD MEETINGS REMAINING VIRTUAL OR RETURNING TO IN-PERSON Mr. Maurer explained that Council is leaving it up to each Board and Commission to determine whether they will continue to meet virtually or in person for future meetings. Boards and Commissions must choose between either fully virtual or all in person; hybrid models are not an option at this time. Mr. Dirth recommended continuing to meet virtually for a couple of months and revisit the idea of meeting in person after a couple of months. The Board agreed that meeting virtually through August would be the best approach and will revisit the discussion at that time. 2) TOUR OF MENOMINEE PARK FACILITIES The facility tour began at the Menominee Park Bath House. Mr. Maurer advises that he has been working with Oshkosh Public Museum staff and discovered that the bath house was built in 1913, remodeled in or around 1942, 1955, 1984 and again in the early 2000’s. There are many ADVISORY PARK BOARD MINUTES PAGE TWO MAY 10, 2021 concerns with the building including poorly installed skylights and the roof leaks. He wanted the Board to see the condition of the building so that they could better understand why the facility will need to remain closed until upgrades can be completed. The next site toured was the Oshkosh Community Playground which was replaced in fall of 2019. Exercise equipment was also installed on site and funding for that project came from the Healthy Neighborhood program. The Board toured the Menominee Park Tennis and Pickle Ball Courts which were also installed in 2019. Prior to the replacement the site was four tennis courts and was converted to three tennis courts and four pickle ball courts. The Menominee Park Zoo was toured last. The zoo obtained a new wolf pack at the end of the 2020 season. The three wolves are siblings with two females and one male. They are just over one year old and are acclimating to the exhibit and staff very well. This spring the Eagle Exhibit was completed and an eagle was brought in to the site. Cayuga came to the zoo from Cornell University in New York. He was brought to Cornell for rehabilitation after receiving a gunshot wound. As the meeting was wrapping up Mr. Maurer encouraged the Board to take notice of the newly renovated globes on Cooper’s Bridge as you leave the park. An anonymous donor generously came forward to pay for the work to be completed but it took some time to find someone able to take on the project as well as getting materials. Ultimately a shop in Columbus was able to complete the work and they have been reinstalled. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Hudak for adjournment; seconded by Metz. Motion carried 6-0. The meeting adjourned at 7:28 P.M Respectfully submitted, Stacy L. James Stacy L. James, Recording Secretary
