Paper reading trackers are available at the library for those who prefer that method. Take the challenge on your own, or register the entire household for some family- friendly competition. Not sure what to read? We’re on it, with winning recommendations for all ages. Summertime is fun time, so read whatever makes you happy! OSHKOSH POET LAUREATE – GIVING VOICE TO COMMUNITY: The City of Oshkosh has launched its first Poet Laureate program. The goal of the new initiative is to enrich the lives of the Oshkosh community by highlighting literacy, sharing the values of poetry, sparking creativity and fostering artistic expression. The effort is a partnership of the City of Oshkosh, Oshkosh Public Library and the Oshkosh Convention & Visitors Bureau. Mayor Lori Palmeri introduced this idea to the Oshkosh City Council after being inspired by poet and activist Amanda Gorman's poem, The Hill We Climb, which she read at the inauguration of President Joe Biden in 2021. Oshkosh’s Poet Laureate will serve as the leading voice for poetry in the Oshkosh community. During the two-year term, the Poet Laureate will promote the art form through publication, performance, education, workshops and digital social media. In addition, the position will receive an honorarium of $2,000 annually. Applications are now being accepted, with the announcement of the Poet Laureate set for September 14.
