HomeMy WebLinkAbout02. 21-255MAY 14, 2021 21-255 RESOLUTION (CARRIED __7-0_____ LOST _______ LAID OVER _______ WITHDRAWN _______) AS AMENDED PURPOSE: ENCOURAGE THE PUBLIC TO COMPLY WITH CDC COVID-19 GUIDELINES AND TO OBTAIN COVID-19 VACCINE INITIATED BY: COUNCIL MEMBER FORD WHEREAS, a novel strain of the coronavirus named COVID-19 continues to circulate in the Oshkosh community; and WHEREAS face masks are an effective tool for limiting the spread of COVID-19; and WHEREAS the Wisconsin State Supreme Court struck down Wisconsin’s state mask mandate on March 31, 2021; and WHEREAS CDC guidelines released May 13th stated "fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance;" and WHEREAS COVID-19 vaccines are a safe and effective tool for preventing COVID-19 infections; and WHEREAS COVID-19 vaccines are readily available to Oshkosh residents. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council for the City of Oshkosh that the City of Oshkosh encourages all residents and businesses to continue following the latest CDC masking recommendations; and masks are still required on GO Transit Systems and other Transit Systems per the Presidential Executive Order Effective until September 13, 2021 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Oshkosh encourages all eligible residents to receive a COVID-19 vaccine; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Oshkosh supports a public education campaign encouraging vaccination.
