They cannot fly like chickens can. A Yes B No They do not need a roost. Ducks tolerate winter and summer much better than chickens - ducks do not require heat. Ducks love the rain and a good thunderstorm and need really no shelter when it is raining (chickens need to be kept dry at all times). They are cleaner and quieter than chickens. They lay an abundance of eggs that are amazing not only for their nutritional content but also baking. Ducks have calm demeanors and are a lot more intelligent than chickens. With the right owner, ducks are a unique poultry bird that can easily be raised humanely, safely, cleanly, and quietly within a city like Oshkosh. I answered yes to keeping ducks on my property because I think it is okay for responsible adults to humanely care for and keep egg laying hen poultry ducks upon their property. I mean, truly, if one can keep chickens, why not ducks? Ducks are truly splendid and docile birds. Their needs might vary slightly from chickens, but they are wonderful egg-layers and can be a better choice (over chickens) for someone looking for a tiny group of egg-laying urban hens. Because I should have the right to have whatever I want on My own property without needing permission from those who need to have their nose in every darn thing. Ducks raised as egg layers produce eggs that are larger and typically more nutritious than chicken eggs, with ducks oen being more relaxed, friendly, and attractive than chickens. Domestic ducks are bred for purposes of laying eggs, and are unable to fly (no wing alterations or "clipping" is required). Ducks enjoy getting wet, unlike chickens, making them a hardy all-weather alternative to chickens. Duck feathers are extremely warm, enabling them to withstand Wisconsin winters. Same as above. food Eggs Currently the city of Oshkosh allows chickens to be kept on a residential property aer obtaining a chicken license. Should the city also allow ducks to be permitted? 77% (91) 23% (27) If No, why not? Ducks fly and I have a serious problem keeping the wild ones out of my pool If you want farm animals, you should move out of the city. Also, question 7 should have an option to reduce the number of chickens. I don’t think farm animals should be kept in city limits. I see ducks more as wild animals that should not be kept in a cage. Not necessary to improve the community. Concerned for the animals. Ducks do not adapt to confinement as well as chickens. Noise is my main concern A Yes B No I do not believe animals normally associated with farms should be allowed in city residential housing. "It's only ONE horse." "It's a comfort horse." I feel they need to be around large bodies of water. I also don’t understand why someone would want ducks on their property. Why does someone want to keep ducks? Aren't there more pressing issues to be discussed? Ducks can be noisy and I feel ducks are more appropriately le in yheir6own habitat's. I don't live on a farm or want to be near one. I don’t want ducks or chickens in my neighborhood. This survey requires an answer to question 7. I don’t like any of the responses so I am forced to give one. I would prefer 0. I can’t believe there is not an option for ‘other’ or ‘none of the above’🤬 No reason How would they keeps the ducks from flying away? The mess....... grew up on the largest fancy poultry (poultry for show not consumption) farm in the country in the 70's. Ducks make noise at all hours of the day Potential too many animals in one yard. Ducks should be free to fly. Caged is no life for a duck. There really are no strong arguments for not keeping ducks, though a question like this simply asks for an opinion whether informed or not. Raising ducks provides a healthy, engaging learning opportunity for families. While I would not expect many families to participate, those that do will learn about animal growth and food sources, while developing responsibility and a connection to the outdoors. I am not as familiar with the noise/smell of ducks. If I had a little more education about how noisy the ducks may be I could possibly be a yes. I would keep it to 2 ducks. They’re a lot noisier and pooping is a lot Not enough interest imo noise created by either chickens or ducks especially early in the day and late in the day They are super messy and loud. Currently the maximum number of chickens allowed to be kept on a residential property is four (4), should that number be increased? 54% (64) 3% (4) 42% (50) A Keep it at 4 B Increase to 5 C Increase to 6
