Acct. No. 0323-1070-7206-11223 Deep Roots, Growing City Exhibition Design Development TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Brad Larson, Museum Director DATE: March 17, 2021 RE: Approve CIP Budget Amendment and Professional Service Agreement with Split Rock Studios for Design Development of Deep Roots, Growing City Exhibition ($119,953) BACKGROUND In the spring of 2019 the Museum began conceptual planning with Split Rock Studios on a long-term exhibition devoted to the theme of Deep Roots, Growing City. This phase was completed and the Museum adopted a conceptual design for the gallery. The next phase is design development and the Museum anticipates beginning this work in April 2021. CURRENT ANALYSIS The Museum has worked with Split Rock Studios on other exhibitions and has a superb working relationship with the firm, which is why they were selected for the conceptual planning phase of Deep Roots, Growing City. It is most efficient and logical to move seamlessly into the design development phase with the same firm. They created the conceptual design, know the building systems, the artifacts and storyline, and have a working relationship with the Museum staff. Professional Service Agreement of $119,953. FISCAL IMPACT The 2021 Capital Improvement budget includes $100,000 (0323-1070-7206-11223) for Deep Roots, Growing City Exhibition Design Development (p. 2021-66). There is a balance in the Sporting & Recreation Design Dev. and Fit Out from the 2020 CIP (0323-1070-7222-63011) that is unencumbered that can cover the amount needed above the $100,000. RECOMMENDATION Approve CIP Budget Amendment and Professional Service Agreement with Split Rock Studios for Design Development of Deep Roots, Growing City Exhibition ($119,953). Respectfully Submitted, Approved: Brad Larson Mark Rohloff Director City Manager
