OSHKOSH COMMITTEE ON AGING (COA) MINUTES
February 2, 2021
A.) Ms. Richey called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m.
B.) PRESENT: Sue Ashton; Julie Kiefer; Ron Duerkop; Judy Richey; Lindsay Temple;
Heidi Basford-Kerkhof; Julie Davids; Deb Allison-Aasby
EXCUSED: Julie Maslowski

Coordinator; Anne Schaefer, Marketing Fund Development Coordinator
C.) CITIZEN COMMENTS ON AGENDA ITEMS: None
D.) PUBLIC COMMENT ONAGENDA ITEMS: None
E.) APPROVAL OF MINUTES: January 5, 2021 minutes approved with changes: Mr.
Duerkop requested to remove a, b and c under H. Other Business; Mrs. Allison-Aasby
seconded; ALL IN FAVOR, Motion carried to accept the minutes with changes.
F.) PRESENTATION:
a. Beth Meltz, Retired Social Worker; shared her experience with COVID-19 and urged
others that have experienced it to join a support group. She stated she has joined a
Survivor Group on Facebook. Mrs. Meltz explained she received a wealth of
information and support from the group. Ms. Richey shared her experience with
COVID-19 and stated that she had lost two from her apartment building and one
other person from the virus.
b. Doug Gieryn, Winnebago County Health Department, speaking on COVID-19
vaccine and distribution sites; Mr. Gieryn stated the Department is working with
Aurora to have a site set up at The Culver Center at UWO. He stated they had
received vaccines from Ascension for 5500 doses. He explained that 604,673 doses of
the vaccine have been administered to Wisconsin residents, 16,461 doses of the
vaccine to Winnebago County residents with 13,793 residents receiving one dose and
2,668 being fully vaccinated.(see attachment A-Winnebago County Vaccine Data) Mr.
Gieryn sent out a big thanks to the Wisconsin National Guard, they provided four
teams of individuals to assist, with eight lines running at the Sunnyview Expo Center.
Mr. Gieryn explained the process for requesting vaccine and for requesting
assistance from the National Guard. He stated they save some spots daily for those
without access to computers. He has reached out to the Oshkosh Seniors Center for
help calling participants in the required age group to see if they had interest in
receiving the vaccine. If participants are interested, the Center Manager forwards the
required information to the County and they then make a call to set up an
appointment. Mrs. Wollerman stated the Seniors Center had sent over approximately
30 names. Mr. Gieryn announced that people should wait in their vehicles until five
(5) minutes prior to their appointment time, as this helps with social distancing.
Mr. Gieryn announced the COVID-19 hotline number (920)-232-3026. You will be
required to provide your name, address, phone number and date of birth.
Mr. Gieryn stated Pick N Save and Kroger’s are doing testing for antibodies.
Mrs. Kiefer questioned if individuals needed to reside in Winnebago County to
receive the vaccine. Mr. Gieryn replied, no you do not. Mrs. Kiefer questioned if
there were no shows and what happens to those doses. Mr. Gieryn replied, yes there
were no shows, of 500 there were approximately 30. He stated, if a couple comes in
and are scheduled for different days, they will allow them to both get vaccinated on
the same day and for those the Center reached out to, will then be called and
scheduled. He stated as of the first day there were zero doses left, so they are
balancing it well.
Mrs. Wollerman questioned the amount of time before the second and where would
one go to receive that. Mr. Gieryn replied, the Pfizer vaccine requires the second dose
three weeks later and it will be the same day and same time as the first dose.

H.) NEW BUSINESS:
a. Mr. Duerkop, Ms. Richey and Mrs. Ashton and Mrs. Maslowski previously
provided members a copy of their plan of action on; Improve Communication and
Visibility of Available Services to Seniors (ICVASS)(see attachment B-ICVASS)
b. Mr. Duerkop Medicare increased from $144.60 to $148.50, Part A from $1408.00 to
$1484.00 and Part B from $198.00 to $203.00. He shared information pertaining to
Wisconsin Caregivers in Crisis.(attachments C-Cover Page, D Letter to Governor
Evers, E Executive Summary and F Taskforce Report and recorded presentation links.)

J.) ADJOURNMENT: Mr. Duerkop moved to adjourn at 9:11 am, Mrs. Kiefer seconded,
ALL IN FAVOR, Motion carried to adjourn at 9:11 am.
