HomeMy WebLinkAbout33. 21-85FEBRUARY 9, 2021 21-85 RESOLUTION (CARRIED________LOST________LAID OVER________WITHDRAWN____X____) BY COUNCIL MEMBERS ALLISON-AASBY & MUGERAUER PURPOSE: REQUEST REOPENING OF THE OSHKOSH PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR IN PERSON SERVICES INITIATED BY: COUNCIL MEMBERS ALLISON-AASBY AND MUGERAUER WHEREAS, the Oshkosh Public Library has a mission to help people find knowledge resources, provide free access to information, preserve local history, and create a vibrant community gathering place; and WHEREAS, the Oshkosh Public Library is not just a reference service, but a place for the vulnerable; and WHEREAS, after taking the necessary COVID-19 related safety precautions, including following the CDC guidelines and Winnebago County Health Departments recommendations the Oshkosh Public Museum, City Hall and Senior Center are all open to the public for in person services; and WHEREAS, the libraries of the Oshkosh Area School District as well as the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Polk Library are open to in person services; and WHEREAS, the Oshkosh Public Library is a vital resource to the greater Oshkosh community; and WHEREAS, the taxpayers in the City of Oshkosh provided $2,772,700 of the Oshkosh Public Library’s $3,684,400 2021 operational budget, or 75% of their funding. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of Oshkosh do hereby respectfully request the Oshkosh Public Library Board of Trustees move to reopen the Oshkosh Public Library to in person services, with all necessary COVID-19 safety measures in place, immediately.
