HomeMy WebLinkAbout12.11.20newsletter DATE: December 11, 2020 TO: Honorable Mayor and Common Council FROM: Mark Rohloff, City Manager SUBJECT: Weekly Newsletter 1. BILLS TO BE MAILED TUESDAY: Real estate and personal property tax bills are being mailed on Tuesday December 15th, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 public health pandemic, the city encourages residents to mail in their tax payments or use the drop box outside the main doors of City Hall. Residents are also encouraged to use the online payment option at www.OshkoshBillPay.com. In addition, the City is designating Community First Credit Union (1492 South Park Avenue or 2424 Westowne Avenue) as an authorized payment location for in person payments. Payments can also be made in person at City Hall if necessary. City Hall is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. City Hall will be closed on December 24 & 25, and January 1, 2021. Individuals are asked to help avoid congestion in City Hall by considering other payment methods before deciding to pay taxes in person this year. Please help us to maintain a safe environment for everyone’s good health. For tax payment information, please call (920) 236-5025. For property value information, please call (920) 236-5070. 2. UTILITY BILLING PROCESSING: As with many services, the City recently bid out for banking services. As part of that bid, the City requested an option to have the banks bid on providing lock box services. Lock box services provides an automated collection and deposit of the bills by the bank, which provides a data file to update the accounting records. This service increases the efficiency of collections and allows for quicker deposits. Associated Bank was awarded the bid for banking services and continues as the primary depository for the City of Oshkosh; it will now provide lock box services. Associated Bank is a Green Bay-based institution, but its lock box service utilizes a Palatine, Illinois mailing address. This has caused some social media backlash, but the lock box contract did not specify a local mailing address, and funds are automatically deposited into our Wisconsin account. Please contact Finance Director Van Gompel with any questions. 3. OSHKOSH MEDIA SIMULCASTING HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Oshkosh North and Oshkosh West have made the decision to stream their winter high school sporting events live, and Oshkosh Media is helping to get these programs out to the community. Working with athletic directors from both North and West, Oshkosh Media staff have developed a way to carry the live streams from the schools on Life TV, the city’s cable access channel. Schedules are subject to change, and not all games will be carried due to other programming obligations. To see schedules of the games Oshkosh Media will carry, check out Oshkosh Media’s website, www.OshkoshMedia.org. Life TV is available on Spectrum Cable channel 2, the Oshkosh Media channel live on Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV, and live streaming on OshkoshMedia.org. Please contact Media Services Coordinator Jake Timm at 236-5261 if you have any questions. 4. OSHKOSH FM PROVIDING HOLIDAY TUNES: The city’s only community radio station, Oshkosh FM 101.9, will once again provide the sounds of the season on the airwaves. Oshkosh FM has an eclectic mix of holiday tunes that you likely will not hear on other holiday radio stations, and is also commercial free. Holiday music can be heard on Oshkosh FM Monday-Friday from 4-10 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday 6 am-10pm. Oshkosh FM is also streaming live on www.OshkoshMedia.org. Be sure to tune in when you attend Celebration of Lights at Menominee Park, as Oshkosh FM has once again partnered with Santa and his elves to provide holiday music for attendees driving through the event. You can see a full weekly schedule for Oshkosh FM 101.9 on OshkoshMedia.org. 5.
