The staff has taken advantage of it, which is a very good thing since it is probably the last nice period of warm temperatures for some time. For the last ten days, Maintenance Technician Matt Reinke has worked hard on the grounds to prepare everything for winter. This is especially noticeable on the Sawyer home east lawn, which now looks wonderful. The work Matt does in autumn makes a big difference in the appearance of the grounds during the warm months, and he takes pride in the effort. Like all staff, Matt has multiple responsibilities and does a good job balancing everything, but fortune certainly smiled on him this year with this magnificent weather. Attached are the October collections reports. While we continue to add records to Past Perfect, the pace is much slower because we lack an Archivist, and because we have only one collections volunteer. The pandemic is wearing on everyone and I am sure we will all be thankful when we return to normal. The staff misses the people, and of course gathering together for breaks and lunch. It seems possible that the Museum can resume a more normal routine in January. Hopefully, that would include in-person Board meetings. However, that all depends on whether the virus numbers increase or decrease. The 2021 budget will be adopted by the Common Council on November 10, and Anna Cannizzo and I will participate virtually. Once that happens, the staff and I can finish scheduling next year’s work and be able to set projects in motion. The work we have done in the past few months, as well as what we are doing right now, is helping prepare for what looks like a very full 2021. I anticipate people will be eager to return to their established lifestyle, which I hope includes visiting the Museum. Our attendance has picked up slightly, but is still minimal at a dozen or fewer people per day. We expect an increase for the Holiday period and the annual elf hunt (very challenging this year), but certainly not the numbers we would ordinarily experience. In the miscellaneous paragraph, the winter issue of The Muse is just about ready to go to the printer. We had some superb feedback from Members on the last issue, and good financial support given the overall circumstances and concerns. The Muse continues to be the primary way we reach Members and donors and how we encourage and inspire support. The John W. Quinney horn will be repatriated to the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribe in a ceremony in Bowler, WI, on Thursday, November 19. I will explain this in detail in next week’s memo. Regrettably, we are again searching for a part-time janitor. It is challenging keeping this position filled. Looking ahead, I will be on vacation around the Thanksgiving week, and then also for the second half of December. That ends the week, and enjoy the pleasant weather this weekend! Brad Larson Collections Report October 2020 Note: Because we are now keeping track of deaccessions on the Collections Report, I have retroactively added the 6 deaccessioned paintings to August, when the Board approved it, so you’ll see a total number of deaccessions below. We have not disposed of them yet, but technically they have been deaccessioned and are no longer considered part of the permanent collection. They have all been marked as such in PastPerfect and in paper files/legers.
