1. FIRE CHIEF RECOGNIZED BY NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTER FOUNDATION:
On Wednesday, October 28 Fire Chief Michael Stanley was pleasantly surprised to receive
the National Firefighter Hero Award from the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation (NFFF)
for going up and above daily duty and for the many achievements in his time of service. The
NFFF award, sponsored by Maglite, specifically recognized Chief Stanley for working with
and creating the Fall Prevention Program directed to assist senior citizens, as well as re-
opening the homeless shelter in Oshkosh at the outbreak of the COVID pandemic. Check out

Along with the Award, the NFFF will be placing a brick with Mike Stanley’s name on their
Walk of Honor in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
2. EDUCATION ASSISTANT JOINS MUSEUM STAFF: Education is a major part of the
Museum’s mission and a new education assistant (LTE), Tanya Schmidt, joined the staff this
week. Tanya is a classroom teacher for the Oshkosh Area School District. She will work on
the creation of new curriculum materials that connect with long-term exhibitions, generate
age appropriate field trip activities, and work with staff to produce traveling trunks of
reproduction artifacts for use in elementary schools. The trunk project is supported by a
grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation. The education position is
underwritten through the Membership program and continues in 2021.
3. NEW PROGRAMMING ON OSHKOSH MEDIA: Oshkosh Media has a variety of new
programming available on its multimedia outlets. The video of Fire Chief Mike Stanley
receiving the Firefighter Hero Award on 10/28 is posted on the Oshkosh Media YouTube
channel. The recent budget workshops held as virtual meetings at both the city and county
levels were covered and are now available on the YouTube channel. The upcoming public
hearing on the 2021 city of Oshkosh budget will be carried live on Wednesday, 11/4 at 5:00
p.m. on GovTV: Spectrum channel 10, U-verse channel 99 and streaming on
www.OshkoshMedia.org, Oshkosh Media on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV.
Oshkosh Media LifeTV has a new program, the “Mark Gruenwald Comic Book Creation
Challenge” where we meet the local winners who wrote their own comic book and learn
more about Mark Gruenwald. For Halloween, LifeTV is featuring a marathon of classic
movies including “Voyage to the Moon”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Nosferatu”, and “White
Zombie”. The movie marathon begins on 10/31 at 5:30 p.m. on Spectrum channel 2, streaming
on www.OshkoshMedia.org and Oshkosh Media on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV.
Also for Halloween, on the radio beginning at 4 p.m. on 10/31, is an 8-part Old Time Radio
presentation of Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” It will be followed by Mary
Shelley’s “Frankenstein” at approximately 8 p.m. on Oshkosh FM 101.9. Full schedules can
be found on www.OshkoshMedia.org.
4. PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED VIRTUAL EXHIBIT OPENS:
The winners of Oshkosh Public Library’s F Stop: Shelter Online Photography Contest and
Exhibit were recently chosen by a panel of local photography experts. In September and
October, community members ages 13 and older were asked to submit original photos and
descriptions reflecting their interpretations of Shelter during the COVID-19 pandemic. F
Stop: Shelter’s 46 entries can be viewed at https://www.oshkoshpubliclibrary.org/, and on
the library’s YouTube channel. Images and stories will also be published in a book. The
anthology will become a part of the library’s permanent collection to preserve this moment
in our community’s history.
