Report of the Director
for
October 1, 2020
A. Archivist Position. The job listing was ended after receiving 69 applications with
many well qualified candidates. Applications were reviewed and the top six were
selected. It was a challenging task because many of the applicants had good
experience or skills. The selected candidates will be interviewed at City Hall on
October 14 by Assistant Director/Durow Curator Anna Cannizzo, Dani Hoeper of
Human Resources, and myself. The start date for the Archivist is in January.
B. Foundation Project. Work is largely complete, with just a few small items
remaining, such as waiting for matching limestone necessary to repair sections of
the porch and remaining seeding. Of note, during the excavation no cracks, holes,
or other obvious water entry points were uncovered. There were no old water
lines. Thus, the source of the water bubbling up from the basement floor is
unknown and we will continue to monitor the area. The drainage system, which
was laid below the footing in order to ensure maximum effectiveness, should
eliminate water pressure against the foundation. The contractor, Berglund
Construction, the Department of Public Works, and the City Electrical Division all
did absolutely fantastic jobs.
C. 2021 Budget. The workshop review of the Museum’s budget by the Common
Council is scheduled for the morning of October 20. As of today, there have been
no changes to the budget as proposed. Once the workshop is completed, the Board
will receive a copy of the budget that will be discussed and approved at the
November 10 Council meeting.
