Basic Details - Designate ducks as heavy -body, egg -laying hens, no drakes. Heavy -body isn't an insult;
it means they can't fly. (So not mallards.) Which makes the requirements quite a bit different for their
home:
- ducks need at least 15 sq ft/duck to roam
- ducks need only 4 sq ft/duck to sleep, but don't need nest boxes or roosts
- ducks like to sleep in marsh hay
- ducks love to play in the rain!
- any yard that's fenced will contain them, since they can't fly over it
- ducks want to go into their enclosure at night, because of predators - hawks, owls, etc.
