Home My WebLink About05. 20-303 JULY 14, 2020 20-303 RESOLUTION (CARRIED 7-0 LOST LAID OVER WITHDRAWN ) PURPOSE: APPROVE PURCHASE OF MANHOLE / INLET CASTINGS FOR THE STREETS DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS ($34,457.00) INITIATED BY: DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works has adopted standards for the manhole and inlet castings to be used within the city; and WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works needs to stock castings to complete construction work scheduled in 2020. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Oshkosh that the proper City officials are hereby authorized and directed pursuant to Section 12-11 of the Oshkosh Municipal Code to purchase manhole and inlet castings from: NEENAH FOUNDRY COMPANY PO Box 729 Neenah, WI 54956 Total: $34,457.00 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the proper City officials are hereby authorized and directed to enter into an appropriate agreement for the purpose of same. Nos. 05612010-1510 Inventory— Castings 05511910-1510 Inventory— Castings 0 City w 0 Oshkosh MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Co Council FROM: James Rabe,Director of Public Works DATE: July 9,2020 RE: Approve Purchase of Manhole/Inlet Castings for the Streets Division of the Department of Public Works ($34,457) BACKGROUND The Department of Public Works has adopted standards for manhole and inlet castings to be used within City- maintained right-of-way and easements. The standardization of the castings allows for a limited variety of inlet and manhole castings to be stocked and ensures proper-sized items are available when repairs are necessary Manhole castings are special ordered with the utility type cast into the lid to help identify the facilities. ANALYSIS The Streets Division of the Department of Public Works orders castings throughout the year to maintain an inventory for repairs to Storm,Wastewater, and Water Utility facilities. At the March 24,2020 Common Council meeting, a resolution authorizing the purchase of castings from Neenah Foundry in the amount of$26,806 was approved. The castings from that purchase have been utilised,and additional castings are now required. These castings will again be provided by Neenah Foundry Company of Neenah, Wisconsin. FISCAL IMPACT The cost of this casting order is $34,457. Funding is available in the Operating Budgets of the Storm Water, Wastewater, and Water Utilities. RECOMMENDATIONS Section 12-11 of the Municipal Code of the City of Oshkosh provides that material purchases,when standardization or compatibility is the overriding consideration, may be approved by the City Manager without the use of formal, sealed quotes.
