ADVISORY BOARD OF THE OSHKOSH SENIORS CENTER
MEETING MINUTES, August 27, 2019

InformationalTopics:
·Scottwelcomed new board member Barb Miller.
·Scott moved to have the October meeting moved back to the original date of October 29; Teri
seconded; all in favor; meeting moved to October 29.
Discussion Items:NONE
Governance Report: Jean reported at the last Governance Meeting Barb Miller was approved to be
recommended to the Advisory Board as a member.
Health Report: Bob K. reported the focus I son Brain Fair, September 11 from 10 am to 1 pm. Contact
Jean if interested in volunteering. Scott is on as a greeter.

·Next meeting will be October 22. The focus at that meeting will be next years, 4Qtr of Life
event, if anyone has any ideas please share them with someone from the health committee.
Friends Report:Jean stated thatAnne Schaefer will attend the September meeting to give an overall
review regarding the FOSC.
Chairman’s Report: NONE
Manager’s Report:Jean read through the September newsletter.
·Jean reported the budget will go to the City Manager in September and finalized by City Council
at their November meeting. She passed around stats regarding attendance. Cedric questioned
the unique number of visits. Jean replied; 3000 to 4000 but she would get accurate numbers.
·Function Fuel and Zumba Gold are two new classes and attendance is going well; attendance is
also growing in Movement Class and the Silver Sneakers class.
·Ascension agreement has been reviewed by the City attorney and is now being reviewed by
Ascension; hoping to move in the middle or end of October; the impact this will make is financial
as rent will be $500 per month, with an increase of 2% each year and a 3 year contract. Hopes
are that the folks attending rehab through them will continue to utilize the Center once their
rehab is complete. Rental income from this will be put towards a fitness coordinator. They will
be utilizing the space the other two fitness positions had used.
·Jean and Jane attended Finding Balance at UWFV, the Dr. was wonderful and Jane will be reaching
out to him regarding next year’s Brain Fair. Thoughts of creating a balance class.
·Stepping on Class has 10 attendees
·New classes include; wine glass painting and oil class
·Woodshop is doing great with classes

·October 1is the Senior Expo
·Vascular Screening is coming up, Jean reminded all that anything that needs an appointment, to
call as soon as possible because they fill up fast.
·Brain Healthy Eat and Greet in September—Scott commented that he was happy to hear about
healthier meals as the meals in the past have been starchy.
·Senior Connects will be held in two sessions
·Elvis John will be performing at the North Building
·Jean thanks all of the sponsors and volunteers for food truck Friday
·Jean stated they are working on a harvest event for October; November will be Military Tribute
and December will be Winter White
·The ski show the Pathfinders provided for the community went well, over 150 signed up and there
were no problems, they brought $20 million to the community
·Building identification for the buildings is posted as both locations; please vote for your choice,
once complete there will be signs made for the buildings. Fleurette was concerned of changing
the name and not have The Seniors Center name. Bobbie explained the name of the Center will
remain The Oshkosh Seniors Center, it is just building identification, such as UWO has various
building names on their campus but it is still University of Oshkosh. Barb stated that the front
desk receives many complaints due to not having any identification located on the buildings.
·Bob K. questioned partnering with YMCA for use of their pool. Barb explained Evergreen pool is
open to anyone, however they do have a waiting list, Jean explained it could be a conflict because
of the insurance reimbursements.
·Bob K. stated he takes extra newsletters now, so he can pass out to people when explaining what
all the Seniors Center has to offer. Liz questioned having a list of all the locations to pick themup,
Bobbie explained we should be encouraging participants to get it mailed to them by supporting
the FOSC. Jane stated they can have it delivered right to their home if they donate to the FOSC.
·Scott announced how pleased he is with the attendance of this group and announced there is still
one vacancy.
