ADVISORY BOARD OF THE OSHKOSH SENIORS CENTER
MEETING MINUTES, March26, 2019

Consent Items
a.Approval of February 26, 2019Minutes: Janemovedto accept the minutes as written; Jackie
seconded, minutes carried as written.
InformationalTopics:
·Jean encourage all members of the board to view the Committee on Aging meetings that are on-
line. She stated the meetings discuss and/or report on good information.
·Jean recommendedmembers to attend the State of the City, she explained they honor individuals
there and provide updates on what has happened in the City in the past year.
·Jean introduced FOSC President Carolyn Edgarton. Carolynexplained she is figuring out roles and
responsibilities. She is preparing for Food Truck Fridays (FTF), great bands are lined up, looking
for volunteers, contact Judy Brewer if interested, there will be 12 food trucks, the beer will be
delivered cold. She stated they are looking for sponsorships, please contact Carolyn or Judy; also,
looking for a presenter(largest sponsorship level, $5,000). She stated the next meeting would be

April 3. Jean received$65,000 from FOSC at their annual meeting.
Carolyn stated she had moved to Oshkosh 1.5 years ago and is from Pennsylvania originally. She
has a financeand accounting back ground, she got started with FOSC from a friend that had
referred her. She stated the Center resources are great. She has two children and works from
home for a non-profit company.
Discussion Items:

·The Board will have four (4) vacancies come May 31. All board members are encouraged to
recruit applicants. Liz and Nancy have given some applications out.
Governance Report:
·Scott stated the committee discussed recruitment of applicants to replace upcoming vacancies.
He stated he appreciates those that have reached out to others. Jean stated she would have an
ad in the monthly newsletter, “The Current”. 75% of board members need to be 50 years of age
or older.
·Carolyn explained the struggle for volunteers; 50+ generation is missing, families from the80”s
and 90”s have moved out of thearea and is part of the impact for lack of volunteers. Bob W.
stated several are taking care of parents.
Health Report:

·Bob K.stated ukulele classes will begin March 29, to register call Jane Wells
·UWO Health FairApril 8, put on by nursing students

·April 26, 4Quarterof Life:What’s YourGamePlan, 175 registered will receivea book “I’m
Dead, Now What”. The books were donated by an anonymous donor. The program will be a
panel withquestions and answers
·He explained there is asurveybeing conducted by UWOfor any age regarding wishes and
preparing for what you wouldlike at the end of your life, if a person would like to do a personal
interview; they will receivea giftcertificate—Jane will let the committee know if there will be
anothermeeting plannedfor the future
·In early May a program regarding sleep disorders, it will be partnered with Aurora, it will include

a rest and restore challenge, May 21the class will tour the Aurora sleep center and review sleep
logs

·Jean shared unique participation in 2018 was 2,208 residents, 85 non-residents totaling 3,043

individuals; 2019 January through March 25was 996 residents, 411 non-residents totaling 1,407,
this does not include approximately500-600 tax participants. Liz questioned how many are new
people. Jean statedshe will run a report on new participants, will not include tours and rentals.
