RE: Authorize Funds for Engberg Anderson Ken Saiki Landscape Design
BACKGROUND
The 2019 capital improvement budget included $225,000 for design development of the
2017 conceptual plan for building modifications. (03231070-7214-63909 "Steiger Wing
Entrance Expansion & Renovation") The Museum subsequently engaged architects at
Engberg Anderson Architects (Milwaukee) for $180,800, as well as authorized a
separate site survey ($4,200) and soil borings ($8,570). The balance is $31,430. Engberg
Anderson's design work was completed in 2019, with the exception of the final
landscape design. This is because in 2019 we proposed waiting on the final landscape
design segment until the foundation repair work, a separate project, was approved and
funded and the grades established so that all drainage work could be coordinated. The
specifications for foundation repair and grading has been completed and shared with
Engberg Anderson.
CURRENT ANALYSIS
We are now at the point where the final landscape design must be completed prior to
the start of foundation work looked down. The proposal from Engberg Anderson
(attached) is to hire Ken Saiki Design for this project at a cost of$13,495; which includes
needed travel. After transferring $10,100 to the Carriage House masonry project, the
balance will be $21,330.
RECOMMENDATION
The balance in the project allocation is $21,330. (03231070-7214-63909 "Steiger Wing
Entrance Expansion & Renovation"). This is sufficient to cover this planned phase of
design development. The recommendation is to authorize $13,465 for landscape design.
