1. HERO CELEBRATION BREAKFAST: Oshkosh Police Department Officers participated in
the Hero Celebration Breakfast hosted by Bella Vista on Friday, February 14, 2020. The heroes
pancake breakfast was a salute to local police officers, firefighters, and emergency personnel
for their commitment and service to the community. OPD wants to thank Bella Vista for an
awesome breakfast and for recognizing the work of Oshkosh first responders!
2. POLAR PLUNGE: It was time again to be “Freezin’ For A Reason” at the “coolest”
fundraising event held by Special Olympics – the 2020 Polar Plunge! Team OPD consisting
of Sergeant Heath Feavel, Officer Kate Mann, Officer Stephen Schuldes, Telecommunications
Clerk Rosie Duron and Auxiliary Officer William Welch participated in the event Friday
evening, February 14 at Menominee Park in Miller’s Bay in support of Special Olympics of
Wisconsin. The team raised approximately $700 for the cause!
3. COFFEE WITH A COP: The Oshkosh Police Department kicked off their 2020 Coffee With
A Cop event at the Menominee Nation Arena from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. during Kids’ Day at the
Farmer’s Market. Sergeant Chris Romanowicz, along with Officers Tom Kopczyk, Andy
Knurowski, Mark Lehman, Nick Kawleski, Ed Skeels, Aaron Roberts and Brian Denor. The
turnout was great and officers had an opportunity to connect with several citizens. The
Oshkosh Police Department extends our sincere appreciation to Planet Perk for providing
the coffee and to the Farmer’s Market and Arena staff who welcomed us to their event. Coffee
With A Cop gives us a chance to build better relationships with our community “One Cup
At A Time!”
4. COMMUNITY UPDATE: WFRV out of Green Bay has a morning show on Thursdays,
Community Update, which is designed to inform the public about important topics
happening in their cities. Previously, Community Update featured Chiefs of Police from the
Green Bay and Appleton areas, but the show is now expanding to include other departments
throughout the Fox Valley. Chief Dean Smith was invited to join the show for an interview
on Thursday, February 20, 2020. Chief Smith discussed the department’s Mental Health
Resiliency program and the new mobile Relay App that allows citizens to report a variety of

incidents in real time to officers. Community Update provided Chief Smith an opportunity
to talk about the great things happening at the Oshkosh Police Department and how we are
continually improving our service to the Oshkosh community.
5. THEN & NOW OLD PHOTOS AS TODAY: The Oshkosh Public Museum
opens the 2020 photography exhibition showcasing work from local
photographers who have reimagined historical photographs from the
Museum’s collection to fit today’s perception. See first-hand the photos
from years past and how the photographer captured a similar moment in
time. We contacted four local photographers to look at the historic photos, asking them to re-
imagine them, and modernize them to fit today’s perception. Photographers are able to
drastically change the outcome of an image through various cameras, film, lenses, and the
timing of a photo. The exhibit Then & Now, will show you the creativity and artistry unique
to each photographer, connecting our history to today. Then & Now opens on Sunday,
February 23 and will run through May 24th.
6. LOOKING FOR SOMETHING FUN THIS WEEKEND? Head to the Museum on Sunday,
February 23, 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm for the opening reception of Then & Now, meet the
photographers, create your own Then & Now photos, we have crafts for the kids,
refreshments and fun for the whole family.
