Other Health Care Programs Temporarily Extended
Congress passed an end-of-year funding package that includes a temporary extension
of the protections from spousal impoverishment for individuals receiving Medicaid
home-and community-based services (HCBS) and the Medicaid Money Follows the
Person program. Both provisions are extended through May 22, 2020. We are
advocating for permanent authorizations of both in May as part of a larger health care
package that may include prescription drug pricing reforms.
The package also extends funding for outreach and enrollment assistance targeted to
low-income Medicare beneficiaries through May 22nd, as well as two years of expanded
Medicaid funding for the U.S. territories and a two-year extension of the 7.5%
threshold for the Medicaid expense tax deduction.
